Against the backdrop of Covid-19, global economic disruption and simmering tensions with the United States, China’s overarching desire for the 14th five-year plan is to be self-reliant. The blueprint highlights policy priorities such as ensuring high-quality economic growth, spurring domestic demand in a dual circulation strategy, becoming a global technology leader by 2035, and achieving carbon neutrality by 2060. This session will discuss the implications of the social and economic development initiatives for China’s economy moving forward and how this blueprint will affect Southeast Asia’s future economic recovery, trade and investments.
